Stage 7: Béjar -> Plasencia 57 km
Cool morning out of Béjar which seems to be a (relatively) alpine destination for this part of Spain. Looking further in the a.m. at the Hotel Cólon y Spa, it’s clearly a grand dame of times past.
Rapid descent out of town, generally very quiet country lanes; oak trees and granite dry stone walls as yesterday, before breaking out eventually into rolling cattle terrain.
Reached Plasencia in good time; then diverted to examine plastic-clad monstrosity on hill as we entered town. Seems to be a multimedia centre, this weekend hosting a gumby cartoon (?) exhibition. Shake our heads and press into the Plaza Mayor for lunch and restorative fluids. Pretty old city including wooden man in the clock tower striking the hour.
Secure hotel, steps away. Nap... end up having dinner st same little hotel, and it’s a treat: best eats so far in Spain, high praise indeed.
