Well, I’m a 70-year old man, bionic knee since 2015, certainly like cycling and have been doing some unsupported trips in recent years but only up to 3 weeks at a time. We’ve worked and lived in Africa (Lesotho and Botswana with extended trips to Ethiopia et al); possibly related, it’s been a dream of mine for at least 30 years to transect Africa from Cairo to Cape Town, by one method or the other. I never thought it would be on the cards to do it by pedaling but since I first heard of TDA some years ago, the pull has been growing.
So ... I may have left it too late in the game, but we’ll see it I can survive.
I’m also indebted to my good friend James for reminding me:
"The dreams of youth grow dim where they lie caked with dust on the shelves of patience. Before we know it, the tomb is sealed.”
